Planting Mangrove in Canmoros and Bocana
2025年12月17日 13:14
On the 16th and 17th of December, we planted 2,000 and 5,000 mangrove trees in the villages of Canmoros and Bocana, respectively.
The Canmoros planting site is a new one we started this year, introduced by the provincial government. Access to the site is not easy, requiring a combination of small boats and tricycles. The site is deep muddy, making travel somewhat challenging, but we planted seedlings of a native species, a type of Pagadpat, which the residents collected and nurtured for one to two months. It was the first time we had ever seen this species.
Meanwhile, in Bocana, where planting has been ongoing since 2009, the planted area has expanded to approximately five hectares, making it one of Ikaw Ako's most successful projects. As the site faces the open ocean, many seedlings were washed away by typhoons this year, but local residents' groups are functioning well and conservation awareness is so well-established that they will shout out warnings from the shore if a fisherman's boat accidentally enters the reforestation site.
Going forward, the plan is to develop a bamboo bridge, observation tower and simple cafe, with the aim of realizing ecotourism that makes use of the mangrove forest, and to improve the livelihoods of local residents.
